Can You Hear Me Scream

This photographic composite I put together is from my DeviantArt days. Though it is from that long ago, I am still proud of it today, and I still feel it represents what I can do in Adobe Photoshop very well. It was partially inspired by lyrics from a song I like (see them below). The original background image I used in this was fairly small compared to the larger pixel dimensions of the model and textures I was going to use. Therefore, I used a lot of the content-aware tools in Photoshop such as the patch tool and the healing and spot healing brush tools to use the original pixels of the background image to make a bigger image but still good quality.

I then selected the model and placed her in the background. Next, I sampled a dark blue color from the background using the eyedropper tool to use to desaturate and “color-tint” the image of the model so that she was not so differently colored from the background. To do this, I had a layer of the color and “clipped” it to the layer of the model using a clipping mask. I set the blend mode to color, and lowered the opacity of the clipped color layer to get the effect I wanted. Finally, I added the textures. For the first texture, I used the Overlay blend mode to get the effect I wanted. The second texture was set to the Lighten blend mode to brighten up areas of the image and provide additional texture to the composition. I then added a layer mask to reduce the effect in some areas of the image to create the composition I wanted.

Remember all the times that we used to play
You were lost and I would save you
I don't think those feelings will ever fade
You were born a part of me

I was never good at hiding anything
My thoughts break me
Do you understand what you mean to me
You are my faith

Won't you cure my tragedy
Won't you cure my tragedy
Don't take her smile away from me
She's broken and I'm far away

Won't you cure my tragedy
Won't you cure my tragedy
If you make the world a stage for me
Then I hope that you can hear me scream
(Won't you cure my tragedy)

...

I can't take this anymore
I can't feel this anymore
Won't you take and give her pain to me
'Cause my whole life I've made mistakes

Can you hear me scream
Can you hear me scream
